Dear students,

I wanted to give you a quick heads up that in the afternoon during our studio time I will be running a participatory workshop as part of my PG Cert research. This workshop will involve us all (including me!) thinking a bit more about how we like to work when it comes to studio space, how our environment affects our ability to work (for better or for worse), what works best for us as unique individuals, and how studios can best function as collaborative learning and working spaces. (You may have seen an email earlier on from me about a survey which is also related to my research, which I would be hugely grateful if you could complete!)

If you do not wish to participate in my research workshop tomorrow afternoon that is absolutely fine — however note that you will still be expected to remain in the studio for your scheduled studio time, during which you can work on other tasks as you please. There will not be a huge amount of homework after tomorrow morning’s session (you might be glad to hear!) so I do hope you will feel able to take part — I will certainly be very grateful for your insights, and I hope that you will find it interesting to see some research in action!

As part of this workshop, I will need anyone who takes part to sign a standard consent form, which outlines more details about why I am doing the workshop and what I will do with data gathered during the workshop (note that when you undertake your own research work as part of your studies, if it involves other people, you will need them to complete similar consent forms!)

I will be bringing paper copies of the forms to tomorrow afternoon’s session so you can sign them in person, but if you would like to read it ahead of time, I attach it here. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions at all.

We look forwards to seeing you at 10am tomorrow morning for our usual Tuesday sessions!

Emma
